Why I Started Clipforge — Building a Video Production Agency in Kolkata

There was a persistent myth in the Indian creative industry when I started out as a video editor in Kolkata: if you want to do premium, high-end commercial work, you have to move to Mumbai. If you want to work on cutting-edge performance marketing and tech brands, you have to move to Bangalore.

I didn't want to move. But I also didn't want to compromise on the quality of work I was producing. I wanted to build a world-class video production agency right here in West Bengal. That was the seed for Clipforge.

The Vision for Clipforge

Clipforge was born out of a desire for craftsmanship. As a video editor, I was tired of the "churn and burn" mentality that dominated the freelance market. I wanted to create cinematic brand films, high-end documentaries, and narrative-driven commercials. I wanted to focus on pacing, color grading, sound design, and true storytelling.

Clipforge's mandate is simple: Create undeniable brand equity through visual storytelling. We work with brands that have a deeper story to tell, where a 15-second hook isn't enough to capture their essence.

The Need for Dropadsify

But as Clipforge grew, I noticed a recurring friction. Clients would come to us for a beautiful brand film, and then ask, "Can you also make 30 fast-paced Reels for our Instagram ads this month?"

This is where the industry often fails. You cannot use the same team, the same editing philosophy, and the same workflow for a cinematic documentary and a direct-response TikTok ad. They are completely different beasts.
